Writing
At Fibbersley Park, we believe in developing creative, fluent writers who can express themselves through the power of words.
In the early years, children take part in ‘book talk’ to discuss and engage with varied stories and develop a love of writing for pleasure and real purpose from an early age, through the high-quality continuous provision. Phonics is also taught daily so children can use their knowledge to link sounds to the written word.
As children move to Key Stage 1, they join the whole school writing cycle approach. Here we use high quality models linked to the class text overview to teach children the structure and language to enable them to write their own. Children use a range of stories and texts to ensure a varied experience. This includes texts which represent a range of diverse characters.
As they approach Key Stage 2, the children begin to pick up the fortnightly writing cycle, consisting of the following format:
Read > RIP > Skills > Skills > Plan >Draft >Write > Edit >Redraft
This encourages the use of high-quality models which children use more independently, and innovatively. Use of success criteria ensures that the children know what to include and aids the identification of next steps.

Spelling and Handwriting
The No Nonsense Spelling programme and the Teach Handwriting Scheme guide us along our journey to achieve the objectives of the National Curriculum.
Challenge packs have their own key texts which are shared and explored. Children are also exposed to different genres, though texts and extracts to provide a broad and balanced approach.
