SAFEGUARDING
As stated in the latest publication of ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility; everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play.
In order to fufill this responsibility effectively, all practitioners must ensure their approach is, at all times, child-centred and the best interests of the child should be considered.
At Fibbersley Park Academy, we have a strong commitment to the safeguarding of our children and young people. Our staff are trained and safeguarding is high on our school agenda.
We ensure a strong safeguarding culture in our school by doing the following:
- Ensuring our children are able to identify trusted adults in school and discuss any worries or concerns or worries they may have.
- Ensuring safeguarding runs through our curriculum by linking in with local support agencies such as Street Teams.
- Ensuring all staff are trained to a high level with up-to-date training/resources and are confident in their role within safeguarding in school.
Supporting Parents at Fibbersley Park Academy
Staff at Fibbersley Park Academy work with parents to identify support at the right level at the right time, concerns raised in school will always be discussed with parents and consent will be sought from parents in order to make any referrals to other support agencies.
Early Help
Fibbersley Park Academy is dedicated to providing the right support to families at the right time, we do this through a process called Early Help. Early Help is the term used to describe the support we give to children, young people and their families. We do this through a multi-agency approach to provide whole family support linking in with Locality Teams, School Health, School Nurses, Housing, Domestic Abuse Workers, Police and Mental Health Services.
Click on the link below for further information on Early Help.
However, if it was deemed that seeking consent may pose a risk of further significant harm to a child, place a vulnerable adult at risk or jeopardise police or Children’s Services investigations then consent would not be requested to refer onto support agencies for a child.
Safeguarding and other related policies are available on our school website, click here.
Prevent Strategy
Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes. The Prevent strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including the extreme right wing, violent Islamist groups and other causes. As a school we have due regard to prevent people being drawn into terrorism. In order to protect children in our care, we must be alert to any reason for concern in the child’s life at home or elsewhere.
Staff are trained to identify children who may be vulnerable to radicalisation and know what to do when they are identified. Protecting children from the risk of radicalisation is part of our safeguarding duties.
As a school we build our children’s resilience to radicalisation by promoting British Values and how to challenge extreme views. Developing children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is at the centre of all we do. Our school is a safe space where they can understand the risks associated with extreme views and develop knowledge and skills to challenge these views. We are aware of the increased risk of online radicalisation and teach our children how to keep themselves safe online. We have suitable filtering systems in place to ensure that children are safe from terrorist and extremist material when accessing the internet in school.
Our PSHE and Relationship curriculum, SCARF, enables children to explore sensitive issues and equips them with the knowledge and skills to understand and manage difficult situations. They are taught ways to recognise and manage risk, make safe choices, and recognise when pressure from others threatens their own wellbeing. Children are taught to develop positive character traits through our school values
